Defender Z is the future for showjumper breeding. He has everything to be able to make a huge contribution, both in breeding and in international show jumping. In terms of conformation, jumping ability, canter and pedigree, Defender-Z is the embodiment of the modern show jumper.
His father, Dominator 2000 Z, more than lives up to expectations under the saddle of Christian Ahlmann and has already achieved several victories at the highest level.
We now know that the dam line may potentially say even more about the quality of a stallion than the sire. And that fantastic dam line is undoubtedly present in Defender Z. His mother, Atureusa S, who jumped at the 1.40m level herself, is a granddaughter of the legendary Heartbreaker through the top sire Padinus. Behind that, we find the well-known foundation sires Calvados, Le Mexico, and Lucky Boy xx. The fact that Atureusa is not a coincidental high-quality mare is evident from the fact that she is the half-sister of the approved stallion Etoulon VDL, who jumps at the 1.50m level, and Dereusa S, who jumped at the 1.60m level. In the direct mare line, we see a large number of international show jumpers.
During the performance test, Defender Z was praised for his jumping ability, canter, attitude, and intelligence. Under Marco Sas, he is currently competing at the 1.35m level and has shown himself very well, including at events such as the World Championships for Young Show Jumping Horses in Lanaken and the KWPN Stallion Competition, where he finished second overall this year.
The first offspring of Defender Z stand out for their type, size, and fantastic canter. In free jumping, they demonstrate a lot of power, athletic ability, and technique. During the KWPN stallion approvals in the ’23-’24 season, two offspring of Defender Z were selected for the second round viewing. One of them, Refresh-S (out of a Carrera VDL dam), was even selected for the performance test!
This year, the focus will be on Defender Z’s sport career, and he will only be available via frozen semen.
